Oil Moisture Meter TOR-1

The TOR-1 transformer oil tester is specifically designed to identify the concentration of dissolved water in insulating mineral oils with a viscosity not exceeding 70 cSt at 50°C.

It’s important to note that when utilizing this device, it serves as a rapid moisture content reference point. For a comprehensive analysis, it is essential to engage a certified laboratory.

Traditional laboratory analyses, at best, require a full day and demand significant human and financial resources. The utilization of TOR-1 enables quick diagnosis of transformer oil in the field, near the transformer, facilitating swift decision-making.

Key Components of the TOR-1 Instrument

  1. LCD panel for displaying moisture content in the tested oil.
  2. Collection container for the tested oil.
  3. Moisture sensor for detecting moisture levels in lubricating and insulating oils.
  4. Printer for generating paper copies of test results.

Principle of Operation

Measuring moisture in oil is akin to measuring moisture in the air. The water content in oil can be expressed in absolute terms as parts per million (ppm) or as the relative humidity (aw):

  • ppm represents the ratio of water weight to oil weight.
  • aw signifies the actual moisture content as a percentage of oil fully saturated with moisture.

An aw value of 0 indicates completely moisture-free oil, while an aw of 1 denotes oil fully saturated with moisture.

The instrument measures aw using a capacitance sensor, ensuring long-term stability and resistance to contamination. It records active water (aw) and temperature (T) as physical parameters. With these values, the express tester calculates the moisture content in mineral transformer oil in ppm. For non-mineral transformer oils and lubricating oils, the water content can be calculated by inputting specific oil parameters. Both measured and calculated values can be obtained through two customizable analog outputs that can be scaled as needed.
